Helpful Breakdown for Residential COVID-19 Announcement for the Houston area

Trash (putrescible waste) will be picked up as normal whether you have our cart service or personal trash cans.
  • Putresible waste is simply just your normal household waste basically anything that breaks down and decompose first in the Houston heat.
  • If you have backdoor service you will need to place your trash at the curbside.
  • Our operations team has been advised to be mindful, that with the backdoor accounts, it may take a few days for residents to know that their trash now needs to be set at the curb. So they will still need to provide traditional backdoor service while the word trickles down to the residents.
  • If you already have approved valet service due to physical/doctor note order, you will still receive valet service. You don’t have to bring it to the curb.
As of Tuesday 3/31/20 all residential recycle has been suspended until further notice.
  • This gives us more resources/driver staff to ensure we pick up all normal household trash
As of Tuesday 3/31/20 all Bulk/Yard Waste will be limited to only 1 or 2 bulk items/yard waste bags.
If you live in the following city limits, we are doing our best to run as normal:
  • City of Missouri City
  • City of Bay City
  • City of Eagle Lake
  • City of Wharton
  • City of Jersey Village
  • City of Tomball
  • City of Magnolia
How Will This Affect Your Service?
WCA provides an essential service for the Houston Metroplex and our mission is to provide the best service possible to our communities. For now, our priority will shift to collect the putrescible waste first.  This is the material that begins to breakdown and decompose first in the Houston heat.
This means that residents need to separate their putrescible waste from their bulk waste to ensure proper and timely collection.  Two bags (2) maximum for bulk, per home, will be picked on your scheduled service day.  WCA/VF Waste Services will not be collecting carpet or construction materials as regular collection related to this event.
Recycle Services (*Please see exceptions below):
Effective Tuesday, March 31, 2020 – Until Further Notice
We are suspending recycle service for the greater Houston area.
Back Door Services (*Please see exceptions below):
Effective Tuesday, March 31, 2020 – Until Further Notice
WCA is requesting that communities receiving backdoor service, under normal conditions, bring their containers curbside for the remainder of this event.
Please note, suspended services due to this event will not be made up or pushed to another service day.
WCA/VF Waste services made these decisions due to the severity of the conditions, and safety concerns to our community and the WCA family.  We thank you for your partnership and for your patience and continued trust in WCA/VF Waste Services.
Please take care and be Safe throughout the remainder of this event.
Sincerely,
WCA/VF Waste Services Municipal Department

* Exceptions - Bay City, Wharton and Matagorda County services will continue to run as normal for the time being, as well as the City of Tomball, Magnolia and the City of Jersey Village.

Commercial Container Service Update Related to COVID-19

Effective immediately, WCA route personnel are not permitted to collect any waste placed outside of containers. This safety measure is based on recommendations from public health officials and our commitment to minimize possible employee exposure to the COVID-19 coronavirus.
Commercial route drivers have been instructed not to leave their vehicles to collect any materials outside containers. WCA will continue to monitor the situation and make any required changes.
Given the “Stay At Home” mandates in many of the markets we serve, our communities are facing increased residential trash volumes and overflowing trash containers. WCA realizes that our new policy be particularly challenging for apartment complexes and other multi-family customers. We encourage those customers to contact their WCA sales representative or our customer service personnel to discuss containers and/or service level changes needed for compliance.
We appreciate your patience and understanding as we focus on our goals of providing outstanding essential service, while protecting our employees. As always, we want to remind our customers that yard waste, household chemicals, construction materials, automotive parts, electronics and related materials cannot be disposed of in WCA containers.

Effective March 17, 2020
